What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is a traditional Indian system of knowledge about the body, daily routines and wellbeing. It uses concepts that do not map directly onto contemporary medical anatomy or diagnosis. Many people explore it for cultural understanding or lifestyle reflection. That does not make every recommended preparation or medical claim effective or safe.

Vata, pitta and kapha

Traditional Ayurvedic teaching describes vata in relation to movement, pitta in relation to transformation or heat, and kapha in relation to structure and stability. This is a simplified introduction to traditional categories. It is not a scientifically validated way to diagnose a person's hormones, metabolism or disease risk.

Can an online quiz find my dosha?

Self-assessment quizzes can introduce vocabulary but cannot substitute for a trained practitioner's broader traditional assessment, much less a clinician's diagnosis. If you have persistent symptoms, seek a medical evaluation rather than guessing that a “dosha imbalance” is the cause.

Safety is essential

The U.S. National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health notes that some Ayurvedic preparations have been found to contain harmful metals and that research evidence is limited for many uses. Herbs can also interact with medicines. Never assume “natural” means safe. Do not start, stop or substitute a treatment based on an AYU4 article.

Gemstone associations are separate

Vedic astrology and gemstone traditions may connect certain stones with planets or doshas. These belong to cultural belief systems and should not be presented as medical interventions. When choosing a gemstone, focus on material authenticity, comfort and personal meaning.
